Introduced in 2019, the Argyllshire Gathering Rugby Cup, sponsored by Kames Fish Farming, sees teams from Oban High School taking to the rugby pitch to compete for this new cup. Oban High School has a long tradition of sporting success; with amongst the highest participation level in Argyll for sporting clubs including Dance, Gymnastics, Rugby and Shinty. The school takes part in national competitions across a variety of sports and in recent years has had particular success with their rugby teams.
At the inaugural game, Murray Hamilton, Principal Teacher of PE at Oban High School said "We are delighted to be working with the Gathering to help promote this success and provide a brand new trophy - The Argyllshire Gathering Rugby Cup. We have two in-school teams who compete throughout the year, and this new trophy will mark the start of their season. All of these players have the opportunity to be a part of our 'school of rugby' programme to help them develop physically, mentally and emotionally. This is delivered with curricular and extra-curricular sessions and working in partnership with Oban Lorne RFC."
We look forward to seeing the 2020 Oban High School rugby teams take to the field on Thursday 27 August 2020.
