Welcome ,

News
The Playing Order will be available from 1 August, on-line only. But it needs all this year’s competitors to have entered through www.obangames.com for it to work – see below.

The venues and competition formats are the same as last year. Lights will be in use on the Wednesday, though we are investigating the CPA suggestion of some style of LED counter instead.

Entry fees (£10) will be collected by the Marshall at your first competition, for most this is on the Wednesday, before you can compete. Please arrive in time and able to pay this.

2006 Registration
Competitors in 2006 must have registered on-line: thank you. If you are unable to do so because you have forgotten your user name or password from last year please contact me. Requests for a ‘ruling on eligibility’ made off-line will have been accepted but we still need those who entered this way and who have been notified they are playing, to go on-line to register again. This will allow for facilities such as the view Playing Order facility to work and for the tune lists provided for judges to be accurate.

So, if you did not register on-line back in February and have not done so since, please go to the Competition Registration and do so now. If you have forgotten your original (2004) email address or password contact Piping Steward for help. This facility will be open until 30 June.

On registering for a competition, I receive notification of your registration and then ‘Accept’ or ‘Reject’ it according to decisions of the Joint Committee of which you are already aware. When you get an automatic email saying you are ‘accepted’, you can then re-visit the site to enter your tunes.

Competition Entry / Withdrawal
It is assumed that if you have been accepted to compete that you will be doing so. If you wish to withdraw please send an email to Piping Steward When you withdraw, the only way I can amend your entry is to convert your original Accept status to a Reject status – if this then results in you getting an automatically generated email rejecting you my apologies: just ignore it.

Those who fail to notify their withdrawal and do not turn up will not be considered eligible for the competitions next year.

To ‘enter’ formally you need to submit your tunes. These can then be changed through the ‘Manage My Tunes’ facility. (Please enter tunes using normal upper and lower case not in capitals). Tunes can be amended up until 1 August 2005: this allows me enough time to collate the judges folders etc.

However, you should be aware that I shall be trying to finalise a playing order by 4 July, so that the correct details make it into the programme.

Local Competition Entries
The local competitions are not entered on-line. Please download the attached double-sided form and follow the instruction on it. Entries for the local competitions will be taken up until 10am on the day of competition, so long as a proper entry form is then presented.

Looking forward
Data from individual entries for the 2006, competitions should be removed by 1 November. Registrations for the 2007 competitions must then be made by 31 January 2007. To avoid any confusion entries for the Oban competitions only will take place through the www.obangames.com website in 2007.

In general the annual timetable will be:

When What
November Registration process for subsequent year opens.
November to end January Competitors register for each competition that they
wish to be considered for.
A full track record and referees are necessary, particularly if you have not competed before.
February Joint Committee of Argyllshire Gathering / Northern Meeting meet to decide who is eligible to compete in that year’s Oban and Inverness Competitions.
The committee comprises representatives of the two organisations, plus up to four Senior judges and representatives from the CPA. Consideration is given to recent track record, CPA grading, relative ability to peer group, any other information.
Being selected one year may not mean that you are selected the next, given that each year the numbers of registrations increases and there are many good players around.
March Competitors are notified of the competitions they have been ruled eligible for www.obangames.com allows individuals tune entries from that date.
April – 1st August Tune changes can be made on-line.
August Playing order visible on-line.
