MacGregor Memorial

The McGregor Memorial piobaireachd competition is organised and run by the Highland Society of London. They organise it to take place in Oban on the Wednesday of the Argyllshire Gathering's piping competitions, so that young pipers whilst having the chance to compete also have the chance to hear the world's leading pipers in other competitions. Although the McGregor competition is listed in the Gathering's programme, it remains a separate competition.

Entry is by request to Angus Nicol, a senior and well known figure to the piping world, who is a member of both the Argyllshire Gathering and the Highland Society of London. He is responsible for all aspects of the competition and competitors should request an entry form by writing to him at:

Competitors should note that entry is on a first come first served basis, with a maximum of 24 competitors: A reserve list is operated. Competitors must be less than 22 years old on the day of competition.

Senior Piobaireachd Competition
Entry Criteria Previous winners of the Highland Society of Londons Gold Medal at a former meeting of the Argyllshire Gathering or Northern Meeting
Competition Format 8 set tunes. Competitors submit 4, and will be asked to play 1

Highland Society of London's Gold Medal
Entry Criteria Requests for a ruling on eligibility are made to the Joint Committee, by end Jan each year. The competition is open to those ruled as being eligible. Max 30. You cannot have won it before.
Competition Format 6 to 8 set tunes. Competitors submit 3/4, play 1

Silver Medal
Entry Criteria Those ruled as being eligible. Max 30. Essentially the next 30 in order of merit as judged by the Joint Committee. Judgements are made on recent track record, CPA grading and judges discretion.
Competition Format 8 set tunes. Competitors submit 2 from each Group Total 4, Play 1
